"Privacy invaded" 2017

The word stepping stone I use here reflects my first project, the project that triggered and guided my journey.

I used collage in this project, for those who are unfamiliar with this technique, it's: "sticking various different materials such as photographs and pieces of paper or fabric on to a backing", formally speaking but were not to worried about formality here. So, it's just ripping and sticking a bunch of things together to make one big thing.

Basically it is a practice that enables the artist to use anything under the stars and sticking it on a paper to form a composition. By now you should know that any art for me has to be an outlet of freedom, so collage fits that description perfectly. Not only could I re-cycle, but there were endless combinations of colour, texture and images available to me.

I am going to talk about one of my favourite collages that came out of my experimentation project, which I called: "privacy invaded". I used a mix of magazine scraps, online images and cardboard to create it.

I tried to create a familiar scenario which was invaded by a big stare, which i cut out and place behind the window. I did this, because I believe that in our time we are always being watched, judged and criticised for every action we take. This collage also attempts to address the role of women in society, they have to appear put together at all times and have everything together; which is to say the least quite unrealistic. Hence why I cut right through the women in the collage.

Coming back to this project being my 1st stepping stone, I say this because it showed me that art was not only freedom in general but also freedom of expression of my own beliefs and opinions about everything and nothing. It taught me that I can use my creativity as a weapon, to tell stories, spread awareness and bring peace to my inner self.

I hope and highly suggest you have something or find something similar in the near future.
