It is true to say that "a picture is worth a thousand words", because sometimes language fails to express everything you wish to deliver to your public. Language often results in misunderstandings, which cannot happen with a picture as each individual is free to interpret the meaning of a photograph. This is similar to a piece of Art, the artist may have one intention and the viewer might receive the piece with a completely different perspective.
Now, why do I say that photography is the key "mineral in the flowing creativity stream"? Simply because from a picture comes millions of different ideas for a drawing, sculpture, painting, anything really. I always use an image as a source of inspiration, it doesn't necessarily mean that I attempt to make a replica of the image, but I might use the colours of the image to create a drawing, or the perspective or the objects in it. A picture can even inspire the atmosphere you wish to give to your drawing.
Take the picture above; I would love to use the beautiful and powerful colours of the sunset to create something abstract that may have nothing in common with the image itself. Another source of inspiration is the text: "La Fin" which is a very broad two word sentence that can be interpreted in an infinite number of ways.
Photography is a crucial element to any artists development of skills and ideas, it is really the threshold of any project.
As I have also previously mentioned, collage is one of my favourite techniques, well it is simply because photos become the material you use to create the piece, it is as if, the image is your paint brush which creates unusual combinations of objects, colours, textures and patterns.
Photography gives life to the unique aspect of every single art masterpiece created on the planet, it is the "personality" you give to your piece.
