"All waters are transparent, until light joins the party"

All colours were once transparent. It is light which made them come alive and different from one another, which is why all art enthusiasts will always ask you: "where is the light coming from?" because depending on that answer, colours and atmospheres can be very different. Colour is one of the most important aspects of an art piece in my opinion. It will transform a composition from an everyday, mundane sketch into a masterpiece of great skill. It elevates any drawing to another dimension, one of deep atmosphere and emotion.
Along with emotion, comes the ability for your audience to interact with your piece and experience fully the journey you have set out for them. But i'm not telling you anything you didn't know before, it is only human to have the chance to see in colour and when you even get the opportunity to give an object or subject any colour you want, well then you have power. This is why I believe that art and the practice of it has enormous influence on our society. People are quickly in chock when they see something out of their ordinary. For example, say you spot a blue elephant in a painting, you will definitely not feel at ease or accept this phenomenon; therefore the artist has already managed to enthral you into his work with the action of a singular brush stroke.
For me, a black and white piece is incomplete and I know I might be contradicting some of the greatest art icons out there, but colour is an element I can't ignore. Black and white can quickly become 2D and fail to attract the viewers eye, whereas a colourful piece will challenge the viewer and force him/her to make sense of what is going on in your painting. Also it will encourage the audience to associate meaning to the painting without consciously being aware of it. One might associate red with anger, while another associates it with love and passion: two completely different emotions.
Colour is the key to triggering emotion in your targeted audience, without it we are left powerless
