“Everything is blurry yet so clear and simple beneath the water”

The majority of people often assume that a focused lens in a picture and a clear image is what gives it quality and aesthetic. I don’t believe this. On the contrary I think that a blurry picture is often more interesting and open to interpretation than an ordinary one. The blurriness gives a sense of mystery to the picture and lets the viewer step into the hidden meanings behind the picture. It makes the viewer want to make sense of what his own eye can’t. As result, not only have you managed to intrigue your audience, you have also forced them to engage with your piece, which remains just a photo.

As soon as you add an unfocused subject into the frame the photograph takes another dimension or complexity which cannot be achieved with simple photography. I don’t want to say here that a beautifully focused image is not a piece of extraordinary art but I mean to say that it is more common or “mainstream” if you will. As an artist, I am always looking to step out of the main flow of things and why not for once go against it? This attitude first came to me a few years ago when I suddenly felt like all art I was producing was in some way to resemblant to another Artis’s work. I was getting inspiration yes, but was taking it to far. So I decided to step out a little and breath in some new creativity in me and begin producing my personal artwork. Whether people enjoyed looking at it or could relate to it didn’t really matter to me. I just wanted to create something which would be a raw description of my feelings and emotions inside.

Now you may wonder, why did you begin with talking about the blurry and focus in a photograph?

Well for the simple reason that this reflects my state of mind. In taking pictures which are not always in focus I can introduce a unique element into my pieces and step out of the comfort zone.

From this I hope I have encouraged and persuaded you to go out there into the infinite world of creativity to find your own unique way of practicing art.

Be the blurry subject of your photograph, become the outsider.
