"Who said art couldn't save the planet?"

I have heard many times the sentence "but art is not a means to change anything" or "you just sit there with a paint brush in hand", well let me tell you that politics or mathematics doesn't involve much more than sitting at a desk typing away. I believe that to change one's mind or trigger there thinking you must present the issue at hand in a completely new perspective. How can this be achieved you ask? Art. Take Pop Art as an example, it's aesthetically pleasing but at the time was a warning sign of our degrading society. The artists had already predicted the negative effect of the increase in mass media and a society growing towards consumerism.
I am not saying that the world would be perfect if we use art to solve all our problems, some need the help of politicians and experts. Nevertheless, art can always help twist the way in which people view a certain issue and always spreads more awareness than any kind of political speech. Think about it, how were posters designed for voting campaigns, new initiatives or anything of the sort? Again, art and artists using their imagination to save the planet.
In the material sense, art is a discipline that classifies as one of the most sustainable ones out of all. I mean you don't need expensive paints to create a masterpiece, just pick up any object and use it to make something great. What I want to get at here is the plastic issue. Plastic is a vital part of our daily life and we have to accept that it is impossible to cut it out. That's where art comes in and saves the planet. Plastic has great artistic properties and can be used to achieve incredible effects that add depth to any piece. I believe art is the biggest recycling bin of all, and that is not to undermine its beauty in any way.
Remember, there's only one planet (currently) fit for life, so why not take care of it. If art won't then tell me who will?
