Upon my recent visit to ART Geneva; a place where galleries flourish with artworks from the most famous artists to niche artists no one has ever heard of. Among those was Prune Nourry, french artist based in New York. Her name was not the first thing I cam across though. Strolling through the fair, my eye caught this hand sculpture reaching up into the sky. I don't know if it was the simplicity in structure or the complexity of the shadows that attracted me. Nevertheless, I took a closer look. It was entitled "Ganges' Life Line" which is exactly what I would have associated it with. A life line for creativity shown through a hand that symbolises the rise of art to guide our society.
To me this hand shows the community that art binds and the strength in that bond. No other professions count on input from others as much as the creative ones do. Thus, a hand is the perfect symbol for our artistic community.
This doesn't mean that art is the only place where togetherness and sharing ideas is important. In fact it should be applied in all professions and aspect of life. What would society be without communication? Without sharing emotion and opinion? Well it would be exactly what most of it is today: a war zone.
If everyone has the freedom to share opinions in peace, with no fear of backlash then we would be geniuses at problem solving. But we haven't quite grasped that concept yet. This is where art kicks in and allows all individuals to express themselves in a way that can be left anonymous if desired. To illustrate this, when I saw this sculpture I was unaware of the artist behind it until I asked the gallery owner.
There is a simple solution to chaos and that is changing perspective. Adopt one where chaos is considered order and you will feel at ease.
Wonder how you can adopt such a different perspective? Start by including more art into your life and freedom of seeing things as you wish will follow.
